Vryheid Landbou Shines

Landbou has started Term Two in full force, with academics, practicals and sports going full steam ahead.

From 31 March to 5 April, Vryheid Landbou couches and rugby teams took part in the prestigious Glenwood Rugby Week, showcasing their determination and school spirit across a series of competitive matches. The First Team had a challenging start, facing a strong Hoërskool Transvalia side in their opening match. Despite a tough game, the boys remained focused and regrouped to deliver a spirited performance against KZN Select, securing a well-deserved victory. Their final encounter was against Potch Volkskool, concluding their campaign on a high note with a commendable display of skill and teamwork.

Meanwhile, the U16 team opened their tournament against KZN Select, showing great energy and commitment. In their second match, they faced DF Malan in a closely contested game. They wrapped up their participation with a solid performance against Jim Fouché, reflecting the team’s growth and resilience throughout the week.

Glenwood Rugby Week proved to be an incredible platform for both teams, allowing players to gain valuable experience and demonstrate the talent and heart that define Landbou rugby.

The Vryheid Landbou High School hall was buzzing with purpose and generosity on Wednesday, 10 April 2025, as the school hosted a highly successful blood drive in partnership with the South African National Blood Service (SANBS). The event, held in the school’s hall, exceeded all expectations and made a meaningful impact.

With 62 donors turning up throughout the day, a total of 52 units of blood were successfully collected. Since one unit of blood can potentially save up to three lives, this means 156 lives could be saved thanks to the selfless efforts of learners, staff, and members of the community.

“We are thrilled to announce that we not only reached our goal of 42 units — we surpassed it!”. “A lot of learners still wanted to donate, but due to time constraints, we sadly had to turn some away. Their enthusiasm was truly inspiring.”

The initiative not only highlighted the importance of blood donation but also showcased the spirit of unity and compassion within the school community. The staff and learners of Vryheid Landbou High School can take great pride in knowing their contributions will make a life-saving difference to people in need.

A huge thank you goes out to everyone who participated — your generosity is nothing short of heroic, and a huge thank you to SANBS for giving us the opportunity to save lives.

The school warmly welcomes Lettah Angel Nene as the new Departmental Head of languages. We look forward to a long and fruitful journey with you.

We also welcome Nompumelelo Happiness Nyoko onto the hostel staff.

The library is always looking for donations of English, Afrikaans and Zulu books and magazines. Thank you to everyone who has already donated.
