Landbou learners light-up
During the holidays the Matrics attended winter school. In spite of finishing off a long term and exams, the matrics still put a lot of effort into the winter school. Thank you to all the Grade 12’s who attended the winter classes, as well as the teachers for their dedication. Well done to the following rugby players who participated in Northern Kwa-Zulu Natal games during the holidays. Melusi Mbatha and Malwande Hlophe played u/19 rugby in Reitz. Anathi Ndaba and Richard Gyamfi participated in the Frankfort VKB Rugby week. Congratulations to the following learners who represented the Zululand u/19s at the Telkom Junior Netball Championships which were held in Cape Town from the 10th until the 14th July: Chichi Sibisi, Samke Biyela and Nonduduzo Ntuli. Landbou, is up and running.
Both the school and hostel have welcomed new staff in this first term of 2023, with Mr. Tshabalala and Mr. Nkosi continuing their Landbou journey in their official capacity as teachers-in-training. The hostel also appointed new staff in the form of a new hostel master, Mr. TD Mbatha, and a hostel mistress, Ms. Z . Mthenjwa. The newcomers’ concert, held last Friday, went off smoothly, with the newcomers performing their hearts out to officially cement their place as part of the Landbou family. The following Grade 11 learners attended a peer promotion function in Newcastle for blood bank training: Zenande Mbatha, Amahle Mkhonza, Simphiwe Mhkwanazi, Sindisiwe Thungo, Sinqobile Dlamini, and Nolwasi Miya. A rugby tournament occurred at Ferrum High over the weekend of the 10th and 11th of February, with the u/16A winning their game against Empangeni High and 1st team drawing their match against Sarel Cilliers. Landbou’s leap into the new school year
Landbou welcomed all staff and students, both old and new, back with an enthusiastic and busy term programe. Leading the way was a rugby clinic held before school officially opened for the year. A leadership camp was held for the incoming prefects it was all about bringing the learners together, and teaching them how to develop into better individuals, while having lots of fun. They had a full day of running around looking for treasure all over Landbou’s large, beautiful premises . They were even give a chance to showcase their creativity, with some DIY projects. Overall the camp was a huge success, with everyone enjoying this special opportunity whilst also learning how to become better leaders in the process. This week at Landbou was one again loaded with work and other activities.
A stunning Valentine’s Day hamper was raffled off, with learners eagerly selling tickets to their friends, family and teachers! The lucky winner was Ntombenhle Khumalo, a learner at Landbou. The school was an array of colours on Valentine’s Day, with learners dressed in civvies to celebrate the day. The halls bustled with excitement; especially, when the Grade 11s handed out the Valentine’s goodies they sold as part of their Matric farewell fundraising. Our principal, Mr Geert Slump, proudly accepted an award on behalf of the school to honour Landbou’s 2021 100% Matric pass rate. Congratulations to all learners and teachers who worked exceptionally hard towards this outstanding achievement. Learners are hard at work, not only in the classroom, but also with extra-murals. Vryheid Landbou is tackling this term with vigour and enthusiasm.
Practicals began this week with learners getting hands on experience in the vegetable gardens, dairy, working with the pigs and horses, and general upkeep. The grade 12 classes are doing their practicals in the Agritech workshop. Practicals are a vital element of learning at Landbou, as they ensure that the learners are able to apply theory learnt in class in a practical environment. On Thursday, Landbou learners celebrated the month of love with a successful sokkie organised by the enthusiastic grade 11 learners. Vryheid in full swing
The vibe at Landbou is again what we are used to. Whilst we are still maintaining strict COVID protocols, we are following the usual full school program. Landbou had its Inter-House Athletics meeting on 27 and 28 January. Congratulations to the athletes who received trophies for excellent achievements: Senior Victor Ludorum – Heinz Agyapong; Senior Victrix Ludorm – Nzuzo Khubekha; Junior Victor Ludorum – Siyathemba Zulu; Junior Victrix Ludorum – Lynne Mghabi and the trophy for the Highest Points on the Sasol Table – Simizwini Zulu. Congratulations to the Vee Boere for winning the team trophy. Our athletes also competed at the Vryheid High School Relay meet. Our athletes gave their best, resulting in some excellent achievements. The u/14 boys received medals for the best u/14 boys team, and our u/19 boys won the 4 x 400m relay. Well done, boys! We look forward to start our Winter sports fixtures…
Vryheid Landbou’s swinging for success in Term 3!
During the school holidays, the Landbou teachers were as busy as always. Mr Mandla Mwandla attended a Technology workshop in Newcastle. Congratulations to Miss Florinda Vorster, who represented our National Team and participated in an International Jukskei competition in Namibia during the holidays. Her team not only won the gold but Florinda was also selected to represent a team to tour the United States of America in 2023! Last week, Landbou held a successful Blood Bank, with Grade 11s, 12s and some staff members eagerly participating. Well done to all involved, every drop counts! The Vryheid Herald donated a ‘Survival Guide’ for all the senior phase learners, Grade 10-12. This handy newspaper covers essential topics such as ‘Dealing with online bullying and ‘Gender-Based Violence (GBV)’. Thank you to the Vryheid Herald for providing such a valuable resource.
